Four of the ArtMakers Noosa, namely Linda Perry, Beatrice Prost, Liana Volpe and Ellen Appleby are exhibiting at the Noosa Library Foyer till the end of October.

They have put together for you to enjoy a strong and diverse selection of wall works, sculptures, large ceramic forms and mixed media installation.

Under the Surface is over

What an engaging event! Great turn out! Great venue! ArtMakers Noosa will be remembered in the Floating Land memories.

First weekend both kids and parents got their hands very dirty. Giving form to creatures leaving under the surface by shaping local found clay is addictive. We ended up with more than 300 small coloured slipped sculptures and ready to dry before being fired in our “cones” firing night. Why do the theme “Under the surface” prompt people to make boats? The question still puzzles us!

Mid week: tough day ahead. First stack the sculptures in the cone shaped clay kilns.

Then cut the collected dead wood and circle the kilns tight. Cover the kilns with slipped newspaper sheets.

Let dry and…be ready for the show of the year!

The wood was not so dry so the team put some efforts to get them started.

UNDER THE SURFACE

As part of Floating Land, we will work with the community to create an installation called Under the Surface. The workshop is inspired by images and research about the wild flora and fauna cultures under the sea that keep our Earth in balance. The sculptures will be made from local clays, and fired in mini paper kilns.

Free workshops. Participation is warmly welcomed; no bookings required.

DIRTY DOZEN

It's time to get muddy with the Dirty Dozen. Yes, we are exhibiting a selection of our new works in the Noosa Regional Gallery.

But it will not be just mud! The 12 of us are exploring contemporary mixed media creations incorporating lights, LEDs, plaster art and Perspex.

The exhibition will be opened by Sunshine Coast Council creative planning and programming manager Chirstine Ballinger on Friday, April 29 at 6:30pm.

The exhibition continues until May 29. Noosa Regional Gallery is opened Wednesday to Sunday 10am-4pm, Pelican Street, Tewantin, QLD.

ArtMakers Noosa will also be running a free workshop on Sunday 15th May 11am-2pm at the Noosa Regional Gallery. Drop in with your family on this fun and busy day for the ultimate experience in clay!

Reflections at Gympie Regional Gallery - Meet the artists 26th March at 1.00pm

ArtMakers Noosa's latest exhibition, Reflections is on at the Gympie Regional Gallery and opens on Tuesday 15th March in the evening, and runs from 15th March to 2nd April 2011. There will be an opportunity to meet the artists on Saturday 26th March at 1.00pm and enjoy a relaxed chat about the work over coffee and cake.

Our work demonstrates an eclectic mix of form, materials and ideas. The artists in the group have interpreted the theme, Reflections, in a range of ways.

Liana Volpe’s work reflects on her past experiences in fashion design, while Linda Perry considers how she uses materials, textures and form, to push the boundaries of what is possible. Ellen Appleby's work reflects landscapes of the Noosa area, through printmaking on clay together with a palate of natural colours to create beautiful vases and flat ceramic wall pieces.

We would love to see you there to share all the artworks with you, everyone is welcome.

Totems!!!

We all loved making totems together at the Butter Factory last weekend - sharing our stories about pottery, a bit of expertise (thanks Lane!), and some goss (always), and solving the problems of the world, as you do. All of us are working avidly towards two BIG exhibitions early next year. First is at the Gympie Regional Gallery in March 2011 then at the end of April we will be exhibiting at the Noosa Regional Gallery. We'll keep you posted!

III Biennale International De Ceramica De Marratxi - Robyn's Prize

Robyn Gill's prizewinning work - Coral Cone

Now exhibited in Marratxi at the Museu de Fang

The same selection criterion was that it motivates to the jury, with unanimous decision in all cases, to choose the work ‘Coral Cone’ from the Australian Robyn Gill, to choose it as the winner of the prize ‘Terra de Fang. La Caixa’, assigned with 4.000 Euros.

“From the first moment we had the surprise of the big quantity of works that were presented at the biennial, what indicates that people like it, search of risk, of not staying in the tradition”, explained García, “and for the election of the winners, that it was very difficult, we bore in mind the trend to the author ceramics, contemporary, avant-garde”.

Planning day

We had a planning day at Lane's recently and brainstormed lots of dreams, schemes and real projects. Importantly we decided on more socialising, less meetings talking, more making art, less administration... New directions for AMN, yeah!!

Totems

ArtMakers Noosa are working together to produce a series of totems. Our darling Lane initiated the project and we'll be workshopping at the Butter Factory later in the year. We hope that you can see the resulting totem forest at our exhibition from 15th March to 5th April at the Gympie Regional Gallery.

Miniatures - A world of small things on display

Be prepared to look a bit more closely at all things small in “Miniatures”, the new range of art works created by ArtMakers Noosa. Our small world of ceramics and mixed media will surprise you.

The Noosa Library will host the installation and wall pieces artworks from Monday 6^th September until Sunday 26^th September. Works can be viewed during library opening hours.
